Fines apply on working days only (Sunday – Thursday). Fridays and Saturdays are official holidays and are excluded.
The maximum overdue fine is 150 LE, equivalent to 30 working days.
After 30 overdue days, the item is considered lost.
For lost or damaged items: pay replacement cost + 25% for administrative overheads, plus any accumulated fines. Alternatively, the item may be replaced with a new copy.
If a patron refuses to pay outstanding fines, borrowing privileges will be suspended until the full amount is settled.
How do I renew a book online?
Log in to the library OPAC using your account credentials, go to My Account → Checked Out Items, and click Renew next to the item. Renewal is only available if no hold has been placed by another patron.
What happens if I return a book late?
A fine of 5 LE per working day will be applied automatically. Fines accumulate on Sunday through Thursday only. The maximum fine is 150 LE (30 working days).
Can I borrow a book that is currently checked out?
Yes — you can place a hold (reservation) on the item. Once it is returned, you will receive an automated email notification. You then have 1 working day to pick it up from the library.
What if I lose a library book?
You will be charged the replacement cost of the book + 25% to cover administrative overhead, plus any overdue fines already accumulated. Alternatively, you may bring a new copy of the same book as a replacement.
How many times can I renew a borrowed item?
You may renew a borrowed item one time only for an additional loan period. Renewal is not possible if another patron has placed a hold on that item.
Can I borrow journals, theses, or reference books?
No. Journals, periodicals, references, theses, microforms, NB books, and special collection items are for in-library use only and cannot be borrowed or renewed.
What if I can't pay my fines right now?
Your borrowing privileges will be suspended until the outstanding fines are fully paid. Please visit the Circulation Desk to settle your account and restore access.
